Flood in Office Nearly Gives Server a Cold Shower …
Every now and then comes a timely reminder of those things that you really should be thinking of, but you never get around to, hopefully this item might make you think and perhaps call us for some advice!
One of our clients came back after their Christmas break to find that a private property above their office had had a fault with their plumbing that had caused a deluge of water to flow into their offices. Luckily the water leaking through the ceiling stopped a few feet short of their server and the system continued humming along, blithely ignoring the chaos and subsequent redecoration going on around it.

The server system was running a backup system that was suitable for the server when it was installed; however recent client growth had meant that the tapes no longer had capacity to back up all their data. This issue was raised at an IT review meeting by Network ROI where the suggestion was to replace the tape system with a large capacity disk-based, encrypted backup that would allow fast restore to Network ROI standby servers.

Unfortunately, for one reason or another, the proposed disk backup system was not taken any further forward by the client at the time. Unsurprisingly, soon after the office flood, server backup was back on the agenda! This time the disk-based backup system has been deployed and the entire data set is taken off site and stored securely in a local bank vault.

This client was lucky. Are you taking chances with your business data? Is your data entirely backed up and safely stored off site? If not talk to us!
